Il mangiare e il bere come figure rivelative dell'esistenza umana / Eating and Drinking as "disclosing" Figures of human Existence
2015
The Author offers an anthropological and philosophical reflexion about same main human activities, such as eating and drinking, to show how they disclose a deep symbolic meaning, essential to the ultimate fulfillment of our life
L’intelligenza divina come forma di vita in Aristotele
2018
On the grounds of Met. xii, 7 this contribution construes the Aristotelian god as a form of biological life and intelligence, its essential connotation, as a form of life. Life (zoè), a term that strictly means biological life, thought or rather the reflexivity of thought, whose “act is also a pleasure” belongs to the Aristotelian god. The latter characteristic is the main reason to argue that the Aristotelian god is, like the “heart”, “a living being in a living being”, in that living organism which amounts to the universe. Accordingly the skies and the cosmos itself are self-propelled and intelligent to Aristotle, who in De Philosophia wonders whether they are also endowed with sensations…

In the realm of the Hubble tension—a review of solutions
2021
The $\Lambda$CDM model provides a good fit to a large span of cosmological data but harbors areas of phenomenology. With the improvement of the number and the accuracy of observations, discrepancies among key cosmological parameters of the model have emerged. The most statistically significant tension is the $4-6\sigma$ disagreement between predictions of the Hubble constant $H_0$ by early time probes with $\Lambda$CDM model, and a number of late time, model-independent determinations of $H_0$ from local measurements of distances and redshifts. The high precision and consistency of the data at both ends present strong challenges to the possible solution space and demand a hypothesis with en…
Search for Subsolar Mass Ultracompact Binaries in Advanced LIGO's Second Observing Run
2019
We present a search for subsolar mass ultracompact objects in data obtained during Advanced LIGO’s second observing run. In contrast to a previous search of Advanced LIGO data from the first observing run, this search includes the effects of component spin on the gravitational waveform. We identify no viable gravitational-wave candidates consistent with subsolar mass ultracompact binaries with at least one component between \ud0.2\ud \ud \udM\ud⊙\ud–\ud1.0\ud \ud \udM\ud⊙\ud. We use the null result to constrain the binary merger rate of (\ud0.2\ud \ud \udM\ud⊙\ud, \ud0.2\ud \ud \udM\ud⊙\ud) binaries to be less than \ud3.7\ud×\ud10\ud5\ud \ud \udGpc\ud−\ud3\ud \udyr\ud−\ud1\udand the binary …
Search for Subsolar-Mass Ultracompact Binaries in Advanced LIGO's First Observing Run
2018
We present the first Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo search for ultracompact binary systems with component masses between 0.2 $M_\odot$ - 1.0 $M_\odot$ using data taken between September 12, 2015 and January 19, 2016. We find no viable gravitational wave candidates. Our null result constrains the coalescence rate of monochromatic (delta function) distributions of non-spinning (0.2 $M_\odot$, 0.2 $M_\odot$) ultracompact binaries to be less than $1.0 \times 10^6 \text{Gpc}^{-3} \text{yr}^{-1}$ and the coalescence rate of a similar distribution of (1.0 $M_\odot$, 1.0 $M_\odot$) ultracompact binaries to be less than $1.9 \times 10^4 \text{Gpc}^{-3} \text{yr}^{-1}$ (at 90 percent confidence). N…
To Be or Not to Be a Germ Cell: The Extragonadal Germ Cell Tumor Paradigm
2021
In the human embryo, the genetic program that orchestrates germ cell specification involves the activation of epigenetic and transcriptional mechanisms that make the germline a unique cell population continuously poised between germness and pluripotency. Germ cell tumors, neoplasias originating from fetal or neonatal germ cells, maintain such dichotomy and can adopt either pluripotent features (embryonal carcinomas) or germness features (seminomas) with a wide range of phenotypes in between these histotypes. Here, we review the basic concepts of cell specification, migration and gonadal colonization of human primordial germ cells (hPGCs) highlighting the analogies of transcriptional/epigene…

Piccola fenomenologia della vita interiore
2015
